TCS: AI-Ready Workforce Leading the AI Revolution
MUMBAI (AI Reporter/News): Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services company, is at the forefront of the AI revolution. CEO K Krithivasan, in a recent email to employees, highlighted that TCS boasts one of the world’s largest AI-ready workforces.
Joining an elite group of global giants, TCS has been named recently to the prestigious FORTUNE® Magazine 2024 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies™.
AI Learning and Skilling
Krithivasan expressed gratitude towards the employees for their dedication to learning and skilling themselves in AI. He stated, “TCS is currently working over 200 engagements in GenAI with our clients and foresees a promising pipeline of future work across all industries.” The return of most TCS employees to the office in the last quarter has further enhanced this learning process.

In his email, Krithivasan also acknowledged the contribution of Chief Operating Officer NG Subramaniam, who is set to retire next month.
Impressive Numbers
TCS employees have clocked 51 million learning hours and acquired 5 million competencies in FY24. The company’s generative AI pipeline has doubled to $900 million. TCS reported a 9.1% on-year growth in net profit to Rs 12,434 crore in the final quarter of 2023-24, surpassing expectations. This strong performance was driven by increased efficiency, productivity gains, and lower subcontracting costs.
Future Outlook
Despite the global decline in demand for technology services due to macroeconomic uncertainty and geopolitical strife, TCS remains optimistic. The company signed new deals totalling $13.2 billion in the quarter, marking a record high. Krithivasan expressed cautious optimism about the industry’s turnaround, stating that FY25 is expected to be better than FY24.
GenAI Pipeline
Discussing the GenAI pipeline, Krithivasan said, “The pipeline itself has doubled over the last quarter and has been shaping up quite well. We are training a large set of our workforce, coming up with our own new tools and platforms to help our customers, new use cases on how customers can use the technology.”
Decoupling Revenue and Headcount
When asked about the possibility of decoupling revenue headcount from growth with a greater focus on Gen AI, Krithivasan responded, “I don’t think there’ll be a complete decoupling of effort and revenue. But you may not see immediate linearity every time. Sometimes we may be increasing the headcount in one quarter and the revenue can come up in some other quarters.”

Krithivasan concluded his email by lauding the employees’ efforts in learning and skilling in AI and Gen AI. He said, “This is another tribute to the culture of engineering we have at TCS, and I am eager to see it grow from strength to strength.”
