March 3, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Spellbook, a leading AI solution for commercial lawyers, has partnered with the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) to become the CBA’s exclusive provider of AI-powered contract drafting and review tools.
The two-year strategic partnership will provide approximately 40,000 CBA members, including lawyers, judges, notaries, and law students across Canada, with preferred access to Spellbook’s AI-powered platform. The platform operates within Microsoft Word, assisting lawyers in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with increased speed and precision.
According to Scott Stevenson, CEO and co-founder of Spellbook, this partnership signifies the increasing integration of AI into legal work. He added that Spellbook is proud to support CBA members in navigating AI with confidence and upholding the standards of the legal profession. Stevenson noted that earning the trust of Canada’s preeminent bar association is particularly meaningful for the Canadian company.
CBA members will receive a 20% discount on annual Spellbook licenses during the exclusive partnership. This provides access to Spellbook’s suite of contract drafting, review, and redlining tools, including the newly launched Compare to Market feature. The feature allows lawyers to compare key contract terms against market data from similar agreements, categorized by industry, jurisdiction, and deal type.
Bianca Kratt, K.C., President of the Canadian Bar Association, stated that the CBA is dedicated to helping Canadian lawyers leverage AI opportunities while maintaining ethical standards. Kratt emphasized security and privacy protections, noting that CBA members accessing Spellbook services through the CBA Advantage program can be assured that their data will be stored in Canada and their confidential information will not be used to train AI models.
Spellbook is currently trusted by over 4,000 law firms and in-house legal teams across 80 countries, including teams at Dropbox, eBay, LightSpeed, McInnes Cooper, and Kennedys, and has reviewed over 10 million contracts to date. Spellbook analyzes contracts against best practices, identifies risks, suggests improvements, and aims to help lawyers work faster. The CBA partnership marks Spellbook’s largest institutional partnership to date and expands its presence in the Canadian market.
Spellbook launched its first GenAI tool for lawyers in 2022 and continues to offer legal AI for transactional law. It is powered by large language models like OpenAI’s GPT-5 and is backed by investors including Khosla Ventures, Thomson Reuters Ventures, Inovia Capital, The Legaltech Fund, Bling Capital, and Moxxie Ventures.
The CBA is the largest association for legal professionals in Canada, representing approximately 40,000 lawyers, judges, notaries in Quebec, academics, and students.
