November 17, 2025 — Leads & Copy — SmartRent, Inc. (NYSE: SMRT) has appointed Sangeeth Ponathil as its new Chief Information Officer, the company announced today.
Ponathil, an executive leader with over 25 years of experience in enterprise technology strategy, will be responsible for shaping SmartRent’s technology roadmap. His expertise in digital transformation and infrastructure modernization will be crucial as the company expands its reach in the rental housing sector.
In his new role, Ponathil will lead SmartRent in building scalable IT systems and infrastructure to support growth and innovation. This includes enhancing the company’s IoT and smart operations platform with AI-driven insights and intelligent automation. He will also oversee SmartRent’s engineering, product development, applications, security, data, and support teams.
Frank Martell, SmartRent President and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for Ponathil’s appointment. He cited Ponathil’s proven success in engineering and implementing scalable products and best practices that align with business goals.
Before joining SmartRent, Ponathil was Senior Vice President of Technology and Head of Product and Engineering at loanDepot, Inc., where he managed a team of over 250 technology professionals. He was responsible for technology delivery across various departments, including sales, operations, marketing, and customer relationship management. He also led initiatives focused on customer retention, corporate efficiency, and digital platform transformation.
Prior to his time at loanDepot, Ponathil held the position of Senior Director of Information Technology for Pizza Hut at YUM Brands, overseeing technology strategy and project delivery for over 5,000 franchise locations. He managed a team of over 100 employees and modernized the company’s data, marketing, and customer systems to improve retention and operational efficiency.
Ponathil shared his excitement about joining SmartRent, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to property technology innovation. He emphasized the potential of smart home IoT and property operations, expressing his eagerness to contribute to the company’s growth.
The appointment of Ponathil coincides with the departure of SmartRent’s Chief Technology Officer, Isaiah DeRose-Wilson, who will be leaving the company at the end of the year.
