October 8, 2025 — Leads & Copy — PingCAP introduced TiDB X, a new architecture for its distributed SQL database, alongside a suite of Generative and Agentic AI innovations, at SCaiLE Summit 2025. The company aims to enhance intelligent applications and agents, reinforcing its position in distributed SQL and agentic AI infrastructure.
TiDB X utilizes object storage as its backbone, decoupling compute and storage for intelligent scaling based on workload patterns and data characteristics. A unified query engine integrates vectors, knowledge graphs, JSON, and SQL for multi-hop queries and long-term memory.
The AI Developer Toolkit, featuring the TiDB AI SDK, TiDB Reasoning Engine, and TiDB MCP Server, enables rapid development and scaling of agentic workflows. It offers out-of-the-box support for platforms like OpenAI, Hugging Face, and NVIDIA.
TiDB X aims to provide context-aware adaptability, fluid workload support across OLTP, operational analytics, and AI workloads, predictable usage-based pricing, and cloud-native resilience. Companies including Pinterest, Block, and Databricks use TiDB. The new capabilities will be available across all TiDB Cloud tiers in late 2025.
PingCAP CEO Max Liu stated that TiDB X combines performance, scale, and reliability with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness needed in the AI era.
