LONDON, UK — September 17, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Nscale, a UK-based AI infrastructure provider, has announced a major collaboration with Microsoft, NVIDIA, and OpenAI to bolster the UK’s AI capabilities. The initiative includes building the UK’s largest AI supercomputer and establishing Stargate UK, an infrastructure platform for deploying OpenAI’s technology.
The AI supercomputer, located on Nscale’s AI Campus in Loughton, will deliver 50MW of AI capacity, scalable to 90MW, and house 23,040 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs by Q1 2027, supporting Microsoft’s Azure services across the UK. Stargate UK, focusing on sovereign workloads, will explore using up to 8,000 NVIDIA GPUs in Q1 2026, potentially scaling to 31,000. It will be based in multiple UK sites, including the new AI Growth Zone in the Northeast.
Nscale will also deploy 4,600 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs with NVIDIA DGX™ Cloud for the DGX Lepton Marketplace, supporting AI developers nationwide. This investment is part of Nscale’s global plan to deploy 300,000 NVIDIA GPUs.
Nscale’s CEO, Josh Payne, emphasized the commitment to building world-class AI infrastructure to maintain global competitiveness. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer highlighted the initiative’s role in making the UK a leader in AI, driving jobs, investment, and public service improvements.
Microsoft’s Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella noted the deepening connection between the US and UK in building digital infrastructure for the AI era. NVIDIA’s Founder and CEO Jensen Huang sees the UK in a prime position for AI development, while OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recognized the UK’s pioneering role in AI.
