Espoo, Finland — October 7, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Nokia has launched the world’s first 50G PON solution, designed to provide ultra-fast, post-quantum broadband connectivity for enterprises. The solution offers substantial capacity, enhanced reliability, and advanced security features to protect enterprises in the post-quantum era. Available on Nokia’s Lightspan MF platform, it allows operators deploying 10G or 25G PON to seamlessly evolve to 50G PON without major disruptions. The 25/50G PON enables operators to utilize existing residential FTTH networks for enterprises, eliminating the need for separate fiber builds.
The solution is available on Nokia’s existing fiber line card, based on the Quillion chipset, and is designed to deliver GPON, XGS, 25G, 50G PON, and future optical modules. The Lightspan line card uses small form factor optics to maximize port density and ensure backward compatibility with existing optics for cost-efficient network upgrades.
Nokia’s 50G/25G PON protects user and network data with quantum-safe encryption and secure key exchange, addressing the threat of data harvesting. Enterprises can rely on redundant PON designs for always-on connectivity, guaranteeing service even under fault conditions. Advanced AI features optimize network performance, and six-nines availability ensures seamless connectivity for critical operations.
Geert Heyninck, General Manager, Broadband Networks, Nokia, stated that multi-gigabit deployments are increasing due to cloud, AI, industry applications, and mobile evolution. Vivek Gaur, VP, Engineering, Colt Technology Services, noted that the trial of Nokia’s 50G PON solution highlighted the flexibility and performance of their network. Roland Montagne, Principal Analyst, IDATE, added that a single line card supporting 10, 25, and 50G PON allows operators to serve various needs while keeping the network simple and cost-efficient.
