Scandium Canada Ltd. (TSX-V: SCD) has secured a non-repayable contribution of up to $6,915,478 under Natural Resources Canada’s International Partnerships Program (PPI). The funding supports the company’s Crater Lake scandium and rare earth elements project in Quebec, along with its proprietary aluminum-scandium (Al-Sc) alloys.
The agreement, announced at the PDAC 2026 mining conference, highlights Canada’s leadership in the G7’s Alliance on Critical Minerals Production. The announcement was made by the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and Guy Bourassa, CEO of Scandium Canada.
According to the company, the federal support demonstrates the strategic value of the Crater Lake project, its Al-Sc alloys, and the company’s scientific expertise and international partnerships.
The PPI contribution will cover 69% of the project costs, accelerating the company’s patent-pending processes for scandium and rare earth elements development, extraction, and purification. Funds will be used for metallurgical testing, advancing to FEL-3 engineering standards by completing detailed design and specifications, and developing a comprehensive cost estimate and execution schedule. The project also includes applied research with end-users to optimize Al-Sc alloy products.
Scandium Canada says that its strategic partners will benefit from the federal support through its Scandium+ division. Gränges Powder Metallurgy (GPM) will continue integrating Scandium Canada’s AA535 and AA7075 alloys into its product offerings following a memorandum of understanding signed in November 2025. GPM, a subsidiary of the global aluminum technology group Gränges, supplies aluminum products formed by thermal projection and aluminum powders for additive manufacturing.
A second partner is set to use Scandium Canada’s metallurgical expertise for scandium recovery from polymetallic deposits. The company says that its team is well-positioned to address the challenges of separating and purifying scandium from nickel and cobalt mineralization. This collaboration extends Canadian scientific expertise to international mining operations.
A third partner represents a strategic alliance as Scandium Canada progresses toward production. Both organizations share a commitment to creating resilient supply chains for critical minerals independent of Chinese sources.
Guy Bourassa, CEO of Scandium Canada, stated that the PPI support provides non-dilutive funding until 2028, allowing the team to focus on execution. He added that the company, with its international partners, will accelerate the development of Crater Lake while advancing the commercialization of its Scandium+ alloys.
The Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Canada, stated that Canada and its partners are investing in secure and sustainable supply chains for critical minerals. He said that working with companies like Scandium Canada helps provide the minerals the world needs, along with prosperity and security for Canadians.
The International Partnerships Program is a Natural Resources Canada program designed to support critical mineral projects in Canada. It aims to strengthen domestic supply chains and solidify Canada’s position as a reliable supplier of critical minerals to allied nations seeking to reduce their dependence on foreign sources.
Scandium Canada Ltd. aims to bring the Crater Lake project into production, to enable the development and commercialization of aluminum-scandium alloys (Al-Sc). The Company leverages its Al-Sc alloy development subsidiary and its Crater Lake mining project to meet the growing need for lighter, greener, more durable and high-performance materials. The Company aims to become a market leader in scandium while committing to building a more responsible economy through innovation and agility.
Scandium Canada is proud to advance Canada’s leadership in critical minerals on the world stage through North America’s largest primary source of scandium and its proprietary aluminum-scandium (Al-Sc) alloys.
