October 7, 2025 — Leads & Copy — IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) has successfully acquired Vector Atomic, a quantum sensing company, in an all-stock transaction.
The acquisition expands IonQ’s quantum technology platform by adding atomic clocks, inertial sensors, and synchronization hardware. Vector Atomic brings over 75 employees, including scientists and engineers, with experience in quantum-based positioning and timing systems. Their sensing tech improves GPS accuracy by 1,000x.
Vector Atomic’s systems, field-validated from gravimetry to space-ready gyros, offer reliable detection through inertial sensors. IonQ’s patent portfolio is bolstered by Vector Atomic’s 29 patents, including technologies used in programs like the U.S. Department of Defense’s X‑37B.
Niccolo de Masi, Chairman and CEO of IonQ, noted the acquisition broadens IonQ’s leadership by adding sensing capabilities. Dr. Jamil Abo-Shaeer, CEO and Co-founder of Vector Atomic, will remain with IonQ.
In the past year, IonQ acquired Oxford Ionics, Capella Space, Lightsynq Technologies, Qubitekk, and secured a majority stake in ID Quantique.
