Defence Holdings and Whitespace Partner to Advance AI Defense Applications; Appoint Andrew McCartney as CTO

August 21, 2025 — Defence Holdings PLC (LSE: ALRT), the UK’s first listed software-led defense company, has partnered with Whitespace to develop next-generation AI applications for defense, aligning with UK and NATO priorities. Whitespace co-founder Andrew McCartney has been appointed as Defence Holdings’ new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

The collaboration leverages Whitespace’s Collective OS platform. The first AI application is under development for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD). Defence Holdings will access Whitespace Collective OS, meeting MOD compliance and Five Eyes interoperability standards. The partnership aims to address the need for sovereign, software-first defense solutions. Key development areas include autonomous decision-making systems, AI-powered intelligence analysis, and cybersecurity solutions.

McCartney, formerly CEO of Microsoft Ventures UK, brings experience in deploying AI systems. Defence Holdings Chairman James Norwood emphasized the importance of this partnership for securing the UK’s sovereign capability. Initial joint development is set to commence immediately.
