CTERA’s Ransom Protect Feature Receives Validation for Rapid Ransomware Defense

New York, NY — December 9, 2025 — Leads & Copy — CTERA announced the results of an independent evaluation demonstrating its Ransom Protect feature can rapidly detect, prevent, and protect against ransomware attacks.

The evaluation, conducted by SYNERGY7’s Cybersecurity Lab powered by Dell Technologies, tested CTERA’s Cyber Protection Data Service using the Govdocs1 dataset. It measured the feature’s detection and mitigation performance under simulated real-world ransomware attacks from eight major ransomware families, including REvil and LockBit.

Each attack was executed twice, measuring pure detection capability without active blocking, and measuring mitigation performance with the active blocking feature enabled, which limits encryption and stops the attack.

Key findings of the evaluation include:

1. 100% Detection Rate: All ransomware families were successfully detected before completing encryption.
2. Rapid Mitigation: The median time to block attacks was 24.5 seconds.
3. Minimal Data Impact: With the mitigation feature enabled, attacks resulted in less than 10% file encryption, with a median of 2.28% files affected, compared to full dataset encryption when the feature was disabled.
4. Full Attack Coverage: The tests completed a full attack chain evaluation, from initial compromise to attempted encryption and data exfiltration, ensuring real-world relevance.

According to Harel Ram, CEO of Synergy7, customers are hesitant to unleash actual ransomware within their environments to verify vendor claims about ransomware protection. Synergy7’s mission is to bridge that gap with independent testing that replicates the sophisticated attacks enterprises face.

Ram stated that CTERA Ransom Protect demonstrated remarkable resilience in Synergy7’s labs, consistently detecting and neutralizing advanced threats within seconds. Ram added that the results provide customers with objective, real-world proof needed to be confident in their data’s security without exposing their own systems to risk.

CTERA CEO Oded Nagel said that the validation from Synergy7 highlights the power of CTERA’s AI-driven, data-centric approach to security. Nagel said that instead of relying solely on reactive recovery, CTERA Ransom Protect automates threat detection and response in real-time. This shifts the paradigm from lengthy, costly post-attack cleanups to proactive prevention, safeguarding data integrity, and dramatically reducing the operational burden on security teams.
