March 3, 2026 — Leads & Copy — Blend Labs, Inc. (NYSE: BLND) has launched Blend Autopilot, the first agent of Blend Intelligent Origination, designed to expedite and streamline the mortgage origination process.
The traditional mortgage origination process typically takes 30 to 60 days and costs $11,000 or more per loan due to batch-oriented review processes. Borrowers often experience delays as they wait for loan officers to review and assess next steps.
Blend Autopilot aims to address these inefficiencies by reviewing borrower documents and application data in real time, completing compliance checks, generating follow-ups, updating application fields, and delivering proactive needs lists in as little as 15 seconds. This non-decisioning tool automates document review and follow-ups, while leaving all credit decisions to underwriters and Automated Underwriting Systems (AUS), reducing manual effort and compressing timelines.
Nima Ghamsari, co-founder and Head of Blend, noted that 53% of borrower interactions occur outside of business hours, often going unanswered until the next business day. Blend Autopilot changes that by executing the entire cycle within seconds of a borrower uploading a document or completing a loan application section.
The agent parses documents, cross-references application data, checks compliance against the lender’s configured guidelines, and triggers native guided follow-up workflows linked directly to the specific document, deposit, or credit inquiry. Loan officers receive a real-time activity feed with income breakdowns and compliance citations. Borrowers receive immediate status updates and actionable to-do lists.
According to a recent National Mortgage News survey, 57% of mortgage professionals expect AI-driven underwriting to change the industry in 2026. Over three-quarters of the industry anticipate origination volume growth this year, and 43% expect automated processes, such as file uploads and document auditing, to significantly change the industry.
Ghamsari also cited a STRATMOR research study indicating that unnecessary documentation requests are a major driver of borrower NPS decline in the mortgage process. He believes Autopilot improves the consumer experience while shrinking the gap between first application activity and next steps.
Blend Autopilot is currently in preview and free to activate for all Blend platform customers directly from their Blend Lending Config Center.
