MEDITECH Unveils AI Strategic Initiatives to Transform Healthcare Experience

Foxborough, MA — September 16, 2025 — Leads & Copy — MEDITECH announced its latest strategic initiatives in artificial intelligence, to be shared at MEDITECH LIVE 2025 on September 17-19. These advancements aim to accelerate an agentic user experience, where intelligent systems support and automate tasks for clinicians, patients, and administrators within Expanse EHR workflows.

Executive Vice President and COO of MEDITECH, Helen Waters, stated that healthcare is undergoing a transformation, with AI impacting the ecosystem by enabling a new level of care, improving patient experience, and increasing efficiencies. She added that Expanse was designed as a cloud-native EHR to establish a scalable foundation for innovation.

MEDITECH’s AI capabilities are integrated throughout Expanse, designed to support users while ensuring care providers maintain control over decision-making. New AI features to be previewed include MyHealth assistant, a chatbot in the MyHealth patient portal that assists patients with summarizing health information and scheduling appointments.

The company will also introduce a chatbot for clinicians embedded in their workflow and an AI project enabling clinicians to use voice interaction within the Expanse Now mobile app to summarize schedules and patient details.

President and CEO of MEDITECH, Michelle O’Connor, said that the company is building an agentic user experience to address industry challenges while enabling personalized care and better outcomes. She added that integrating AI technologies to perform tasks behind the scenes in Expanse improves healthcare delivery holistically.

MEDITECH and its customers will provide updates on the deployment of several AI-powered solutions. One organization reported saving an average of 7 minutes per discharge using generative AI to auto-generate discharge summaries. Other AI-powered solutions include ambient scribing, no-show appointment prediction, automated patient messaging, and dynamic data search and summarization.

MEDITECH also leverages AI to enhance interoperability by ensuring key information gathered across multiple disparate sources is presented in the workflow when needed. Traverse Exchange, MEDITECH’s FHIR-based data exchange network, uses AI to process and compile information from various sources into a single, coherent clinical view.

Attendees at MEDITECH LIVE will hear from healthcare leaders who have adopted AI-powered technology to improve care and operations, including a panel discussion, a presentation by Holyoke Medical Center, and a session with Google Cloud Director of Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions Amy Waldron.
