Iona University Hosts Conference on the Future of Teaching in the AI Age

New Rochelle, N.Y. — October 6, 2025 — Leads & Copy — Iona University hosted over 200 educators for a conference on the future of teaching in the age of AI. The conference, titled “The Future of Teaching: Writing, Reading & Thinking in the AI Age,” explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can both transform and revitalize enduring educational values.

Iona’s Gabelli Center for Teaching & Learning hosted the event, attracting educators from colleges, universities, public school districts, and high schools. John Warner, author of “More Than Words: How to Think About Writing in the Age of AI,” delivered the keynote address.

Warner praised Iona’s leadership, stating the University takes its mission seriously to develop human beings and integrate AI in a way that supports human flourishing. The conference showcased Iona’s leadership in AI-aware pedagogy, driven by faculty-led innovation through the Gabelli Center’s Presidential and Provost Fellowships.

Faculty presentations included topics such as tracing interests and influences in the AI age, AI literacy versus traditional literacy, and data science for future leaders. Provost Tricia Mulligan emphasized the necessity of engaging with AI while maintaining human discernment and ethical considerations.

The Gabelli Center for Teaching & Learning supports Iona’s commitment to Catholic education and is made possible through the generosity of Marc Gabelli and the EMG Madonna Foundation. The center has launched scholarships, supported AI training for educators, and hosted a speaker series.
